MEET THE PRESENTERS
Humdingers, Rod MacDonald & the
Rod MacDonald, guitarist inspired by many musicians, became one of Greenwich Village’s top singer-songwriters during the 1980s and today performs throughout North America and Europe. In South Florida, he has been named “Best Local Acoustic Artist” by New Times and one of the "Ten Magnificent Musicians of Palm Beach County" by The Palm Beach Post, who named his 2014 CD, "Later That Night", "Best Local CD of 2014.” He has been a Music Americana instructor at FAU since 2006. Bill Meredith, drummer, is the backbone of several Palm Beach County rock and roll bands, including Big Brass Bed and Illumination. He has toured throughout the U.S. and Canada and appears on more than a dozen CDs. Brad Keller, keyboardist, has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and with Maynard Ferguson and the Ink Spots, is the jazz piano instructor at Palm Beach State College and has taught music in Palm Beach County public schools for twenty years. He is also the co-author of the Jazz Cats books used internationally to introduce young students to jazz. Doug Lindsey, bass and vocalist, has been playing in South Florida bands for 30 years. John Smotherman, lead guitarist, plays with Big Brass Bed, Illumination, and several Palm Beach County bands. His exquisite solos caused the Palm Beach Post to label him one of the “Ten Magnificent Musicians of Palm Beach County.”
Anette Isaacs, M.A. born and raised in Germany, received her academic education at Emory University in Atlanta, the University of Vienna, Austria, and the Free University in Berlin and earned master's degrees in history, political science, and American studies. She now lectures extensively on more than 40 different topics pertaining to her home country's history, culture, politics, and society.
Shelly Isaacs, M.A. is the founder and host of Café Cinematheque International, a foreign language film program presented in venues throughout South Florida. As a creative director/writer/producer and director in advertising, Isaacs specialized in promoting movies & entertainment. He earned a master's degree in media ecology studies from New York University and taught graduate-level courses in cultural studies. In 2009 he launched Cinematheque at Sea, a film program available on luxury cruises throughout the world.
Andrew Kahn is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pittsburgh. He has done graduate work in Political Science at the University of Maryland and the New School University in New York. Kahn has taught at St. Cloud University in Minnesota and Western Connecticut University in Danbury. He helped found AEGIS, the Association for Education in Global/International Studies, at Stanford University. He is a world traveler.
Seth Kibel is one of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier woodwind specialists, working with some of the best bands in klezmer, jazz, swing, and more. Wowing audiences on clarinet, saxophone, and flute, Kibel has made a name for himself in the Washington/Baltimore region, and beyond. He is the featured performer with The Kleztet, Bay Jazz Project, Music Pilgrim Trio, The Natty Beaux, and more. Winner of 28 Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies), including “Best World Music Instrumentalist” (2003-11) and “Best Jazz Instrumentalist” (2005, 2007-8, 2011-14). His most recent recording, "When You're Smiling," was released in 2018 on the Azalea City Recordings record label. His song "New Waltz" was the Grand Prize winner of 2016 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC), sponsored by the Songwriters' Association of Washington (SAW). When he's not performing, Kibel frequently lectures on a variety of topics in music history for numerous institutions, including the Osher Lifelong Learning programs at Johns Hopkins and Towson Universities.
Lisa Kirshon is a Wellness Educator of the Chinese Healing Arts of Qigong and Tai Chi for more than 30 years. She brings a wealth of knowledge, education, and inspiration to her teachings. Lisa also provides virtual teachings, "Wellness Without Walls "for Corporate Wellness, Universities, private country clubs, and senior centers. She is a Certified Senior Fitness Specialist, and holds Qigong Certifications from internationally renowned health educator Kenneth Cohen, and NASM; CPR and AED, AHA Heartsaver.
