SPL03312 – Israel at 74: Achievements and Challenges
Instructor: Mitchell Bard, Ph.D.
In many ways, Israel is a miracle. The odds were against its establishment and survival, yet it emerged as a triumph of Zionism. While its accomplishments are many and impressive in technology, medicine, and science, it also has faced internal challenges such as poverty, the integration of immigrants, and religious-secular tensions. Externally, Israel became one of the most powerful countries in the world but had to fight multiple wars and remains in conflict with the Palestinians and others. This lecture will explore how Israel has achieved so much in so little time and what it will take to overcome the present domestic and foreign challenges.
