Much has been written of late about settler cultures with specific reference to Israel and the Palestinians. Yet, there was a settler culture that lasted more than 1400 years and spanned the Mediterranean and Middle East from the Atlantic to the borders of China. That settler culture was Arab and Ottoman. We shall explore the history of the conquering and settlement of the Middle East and most of the Mediterranean and the implications of this settler culture for today.
