SPL03093 – VIP Tour of the Avron B. Fogelman Sports Museum
Guide: Avron Fogelman
Join Avron B. Fogelman for an exclusive VIP tour of FAU’s Fogelman Sports Museum at the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence. Fogelman, a longtime Boca Raton resident and former Kansas City Royals owner will be your guide through what is considered the most extensive private collection of original sports memorabilia in the United States. Donated to FAU by Fogelman, the collection offers visitors a visual progression of American sports alongside vignettes of the country’s growth, providing historical context, opportunities for intergenerational connections, and unique storytelling. Hundreds of one-of-a-kind sports objects ranging from the Olympic torch from the “Nazi Olympic Games” to Babe Ruth’s uniform to Jackie Robinson’s scouting card to the 13 original rules of basketball by James Naismith tell not only the story of American sports but of American society. This tour will include the stories behind the objects, including a recording of the congratulatory phone call from then-President Ronald Reagan celebrating the Kansas City Royals’ 1985 World Series win. This is a unique opportunity to hear from the collector and enjoy questions and answers while exploring the museum. After the program, participants are welcome to take their time perusing the exhibits. The museum is located on the FAU Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road, adjacent to the football stadium. The registration cut-off date is March 2, 2022. Due to the VIP nature of this excursion, space is limited, so sign-up early!
