Course Description

Centuries after its writing, "The Odyssey" by Homer remains one of the most important literary works in the world. Its themes have had a vital influence on western culture and literature, inspiring every modern, beloved classic from "Star Trek" to the "Harry Potter" series and "The Lord of the Rings." Beyond the hero's journey, however, "The Odyssey" presents profound thought and themes that span the ages and are still relevant today. In this class, we will examine this epic from antiquity and trace its remarkable influences on modern society. Space is limited.
