Course Description
In this dynamic and interactive guided discussion series, participants will explore and discuss the role communication plays in cross-cultural exchanges and how our self-referent criteria shape our cultural biases. Tolerance is one of the first “solutions” proposed whenever cultural issues are discussed. It is also one of the first aspects identified as “lacking” when cultural or racial issues arise. However, tolerance is useless when developing cross-cultural competence. Given the current cultural and racial climate, understanding the value of utilizing culture to make us stronger individuals is timely and necessary. Space is limited.Lectures

Susana Fernández, Ph.D., teaches leadership for the College of Business at FAU; however, fashion is one of her biggest passions! Although her audience age ranges widely, she has been featured and recognized for offering style advice to women over 40. As a blogger and influencer, she has been hired to style Carolina Herrera's evening collection and has also worked with a range of fashion and beauty labels, including Banana Republic, Soft Surroundings, Lily Silk, Wyatt Ingraham, Lustre Jewels, Needham Lane, Stella Carakasi, Hang 2 Dry, Nora Gardner New York, London-based Maxwell Scott, Jord Watches, O.Y.O. Box, Macaron Cafe, and beauty brands such as Clarins, Origins, Wet' n Wild, and Real Her Makeup. She has been chosen as an "Editor's Pick" for “Vanity Fair's” Best Dressed and has appeared in the “New York Times Fashion & Style” and “The Sartorialist.”
