Course Description

Wellness is an overall feeling of contentment with our physical, mental, and emotional selves. A large contributor to overall wellness is the expression of gratitude. Even thinking about what or whom we are grateful for can elevate our mood instantly. Gratitude not only impacts our mood but also affects relationships, performance, and overall well-being. The field of positive psychology has sought to define gratitude and identify individual factors that contribute to a sense of thankfulness in people. Dr. Jones will review the current scientific research into the individual, social and cultural factors influencing gratitude. She will detail the benefits of expressing and experiencing gratitude on individual and societal levels. Finally, several gratitude interventions will be offered to improve overall mental health and well-being. This event can be highly beneficial alone but will be enhanced with the other Science of Wellness programs: the Science of Happiness and the Science of Flourishing.
