BROADWAY MUSICALS: A Jewish Legacy is a ninety-minute documentary film that explores the unique role of Jewish composers and lyricists in the creation of the modern American musical. For the first time there is a film that examines the phenomenon that, over the fifty-year period of its development, the songs of the Broadway musical, commonly referred to as “The American Songbook,” were created almost exclusively by Jewish-Americans. This show is a melding of great Broadway show tunes and entertaining performances with a new perspective on this cultural history through archival clips and interviews. The film is being streamed through the PBS Great Performances site free of charge. DVDs are available at PBS, Amazon, Walmart, Target and many other outlets. It is a 2 disc set with the entire film plus a bonus interview DVD. Feel free to read the reviews on the PBS site by those who saw the film. I also have reviews etc. Carl Reiner recently weighed in on the film. I believe that Betty gave you the quote but I am happy to resend it. "I was amazed, delightfully surprised, ethnically proud and immensely entertained by the PBS presentation of 'Broadway Musicals - A Jewish Legacy'. I am so happy that my enthusiastic response to the show has found a print outlet for my hearty recommendation." - Carl Reiner
