Educated: A Memoir  by Tara Westover: Reading and Discussion

Words... Alive!
Storytelling / Arts & Letters

Course Description

Educated, A Memoir, shares the heartbreaking and heartwarming attempt of the author to free herself from the limitations of her birth and environment to realize the freedom to be self-created. In her strict and radical Mormon family, girls who coveted education were considered sinful. And yet beyond all expectations, she pursued a life of the mind at the cost of losing the family she loved. The memoir is vividly brought to life by the Words...Alive! performers and will challenge your definition of family and ask you to reevaluate your own education. It will ask you how you know if what is true is really true. Tara Westover, the author, has a PhD in history and has a great story to tell.  It is an honor to give her book a staged reading. With three professional actresses acting all the parts with only scripts, Words...Alive! has been bringing books and programs to life for more than 17 years. The program will be followed by a question and answer period, designed to involve the audience and provoke further interest in the subject, the author, and in reading!
