About the Instructor

• Charles H. Hennekens, MD, DrPH, FACPM is the first Sir Richard Doll Professor of Medicine and Senior Academic Adviser to the Dean in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine (COM) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). He was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Queens at age 10 and graduated from Queens College Phi Beta Kappa where he was inducted into the Achievement and Athletic Halls of Fame and the baseball stadium was dedicated in his name.  He graduated from Cornell University Medical College and completed his residency in internal medicine at The New York Hospital.  After 2 years as Lieutenant Commander  as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention he went to Harvard and became the first John Snow Professor as well as the first Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School and first Chief of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was ranked #81 in the history of the world for having saved over 1.1 million lives, ahead of Jonas Salk (83) and Henry Heimlich (101).
  
  Jennifer Caceres, MD, FACP is Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Medicine in the COM at FAU. She was born and raised in New Jersey.  She received her bachelors in biology with highest honors at Rutgers College, her MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her training in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center, New York Medical college.
  
  Michelle Lizotte-Waniewski, PhD, is  Director of HealthFirst, the major health and wellness initiative at the COM and Associate Professor of  Population Health and Social Medicine at the COM at FAU.  She was born and raised in western Massachusetts and received her bachelor’s degree from Smith College and doctorate from UMass-Amherst.  Her accomplishments include basic research and later teaching and mentoring COM medical students.  The HealthFirst Health and Wellness Initiative is promoting evidence based wellness-centered approaches to COM student success through curricular innovations and community experiences. 
  
  Steven F. Lewis, PhD is Professor of Population Health and Social Medicine in the COM at FAU.  He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and. received his BS from Brooklyn College and PhD in exercise physiology from Stanford University He served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Sciences at the Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. His subspecialty is human muscle fatigue and physical performance in health and disease. His primary responsibilities today are teaching COM medical students.
