Course DescriptionMost theater-goers know Zero Mostel primarily through his iconic performances as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, but there is much more to this unique and larger-than-life personality. Mostel was an accomplished painter; he was "blacklisted" after refusing to "name names" during the Red Scare of the 1950s; he was a champion of Yiddish culture; he performed the title role of Gianni Schicchi in Puccini's one-act comic opera for a production broadcast on CBS. Using rare archival videos, this program will explore the many facets of Zero Mostel.
