Course Description

Come explore FAU Harbor Branch, a world-renowned leader in the fields of ocean exploration, conservation, and education, working to find solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing our fragile marine ecosystems. This unique opportunity takes you behind the scenes to better understand the significant research conducted at FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, located in Fort Pierce, Florida. This excursion includes transportation to the Institute, a golf-cart tour that explores the 144-acre waterfront campus, a visit to the Exploration Command Center, and lunch.

In celebration of the Institute’s 50th Anniversary, participants will hear historical highlights, learn about the cutting-edge research taking place there, view some of the exciting deep-sea creatures they’ve encountered, and discover the impact this work has on our everyday lives. Participants will see the iconic Johnson Sea Link deep-diving submersible and views of the Indian River Lagoon and Florida wildlife. Approximately 72% of the earth is covered by water; however, we know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of our oceans!

This VIP experience will be led by members of the FAU Harbor Branch outreach team, who have a strong background in science, education, and communication and work closely with the Institute’s researchers to share their work with the broader community.
The registration cut-off date is Februrary 28, 2022. Due to the VIP nature of this excursion, space is limited, so sign-up early!
